The School of Urban Construction and Safety Engineering was established in July 2006 through the merger of the former Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and the Department of Environmental and Energy Engineering. Among its programs, the Safety Technology Management major was founded in 1968, while the Energy and Power Engineering and Civil Engineering majors began enrolling students in 1982 and 1985 respectively, giving them over 40 years of educational history.

2020 – Master’s degree program in the field of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering; Shanghai Municipal Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center (Architecture and Civil Engineering Experimental Teaching Center)

2019 – Civil Engineering major accredited through professional certification

2015 – Civil Engineering major designated as a Shanghai municipal application-oriented undergraduate pilot program

2014 – Master’s degree program in the field of Safety Engineering

2009 – Renamed as the School of Urban Construction and Safety Engineering; added the Engineering Management major; Civil Engineering major recognized as an Undergraduate Education Highland by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission

2008 – Added the undergraduate program in Architecture; Urban Safety Engineering designated as a Key Discipline (Phase V) by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission

2006 – Formed as the School of Civil Engineering and Safety Engineering through the merger of the former Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and the Department of Environment and Safety Engineering. One university-level key discipline: Urban Safety Engineering. Six undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering, Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Building Environment and Equipment Engineering, Thermal Energy and Power Engineering, and Landscape Architecture. One associate degree program: Architectural Decoration Technology.

2003 – Added the Building Environment and Equipment Engineering program

2000 – Shanghai Institute of Technology enrolled its first cohort of undergraduate students in Civil Engineering, Energy and Power Engineering, and Safety Engineering

1997 – Established the Building Equipment Installation program; established the Interior Decoration program

1985 – Established the Industrial and Civil Construction program

1982 – Established the Mechanical Energy program

1968 – Established the Safety Technology Management program
