The School of Urban Construction and Ecological Technology at Shanghai Institute of Technology is formed through the integration of the School of Urban Construction and Safety Engineering and the School of Ecological Technology and Engineering. Distinguished by the interdisciplinary integration of engineering, science, and agriculture, and guided by the demands of industrial development, the School is committed to cultivating high-quality applied technical talents with comprehensive competencies, while empowering high-quality economic and social development through scientific and technological innovation.

The School has a well-structured disciplinary and programmatic framework, offering eight undergraduate programs: Civil Engineering, Safety Engineering, Energy and Power Engineering, Architecture, Ecology, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, and Engineering Management. Among these, Civil Engineering is recognized as a National First-Class Undergraduate Program, while Safety Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, and Engineering Management have been selected as Shanghai Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Programs. The School also houses a master’s degree program in Ecology (first-level discipline) and four professional master’s degree authorization points. Leveraging the doctoral program in Chemical Engineering and Technology (first-level discipline) offered by the University, the School has established a comprehensive “Bachelor’s-Master’s-PhD” talent cultivation system.

The School boasts a strong and innovative faculty team, comprising 167 staff members, over 90 doctoral and master’s supervisors, and more than 50 industry (enterprise) graduate supervisors. This high-level teaching and research team, characterized by the collaborative education model of “on-campus supervisors + industry mentors,” provides solid support for talent cultivation and scientific research innovation.

The School is equipped with advanced teaching and research facilities, including over 6,000 square meters of laboratories, a botanical garden that ranks among the top of domestic university gardens, and high-end equipment such as a 10,000 KN multifunctional testing system. It also hosts two municipal-level experimental teaching demonstration centers, three modern industry colleges, and multiple “dual-qualified teacher” training bases. These facilities and platforms deepen the “Four Duals, Four Reforms, Four Constructions” educational model, promoting the deep integration of teaching with industrial needs and research practice.

The School excels in research and social service capabilities. It is home to national and provincial/ministerial-level platforms and think tanks, including the National Germplasm Repository of Daylily, the Beautiful China and Ecological Civilization Research Institute (a Shanghai University Think Tank), the Key Laboratory of Process Safety and Intelligent Control of Shanghai Emergency Administration, and the Shanghai Engineering Research Center of Urban Road Ecology. In recent years, the School has led over 100 national and provincial/ministerial-level research projects, including key projects under the National Key R&D Program and projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has received numerous scientific research awards at provincial/ministerial and industry society levels. More than 20 think tank reports produced by the School have received affirmative instructions from leaders at or above the provincial/ministerial level, providing crucial decision-making references for the development of ecological civilization and the high-quality, resilient development of urban safety.

The School actively engages in extensive domestic and international collaborations. It offers “4+1” joint training programs with renowned universities in the United Kingdom and the United States, creating international pathways for student advancement. It has also established stable partnerships with top-tier universities and research institutions, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, fostering deep cooperation in talent cultivation, research breakthroughs, and resource sharing, thereby continuously enhancing its disciplinary influence and core competitiveness.
